Don’t get me wrong but…..

This kinda thing doesn’t usually get my juices flowing but T-Mobile’s new Mobile Broadband Share Dock is one of the slicker versions out there.

The funky unit consists of a USB HSDPA modem and a base which shares the connection over WiFi, which means you can unplug the modem and take your access on the road.

Sorted.

Well, as long as you don’t need a persistent connection at home and can live with the bandwidth.

£20 per month will get you this dock and should be hitting the UK in the next couple of days.

Mobile Broadband Gets Logo and Everything!

Check out this logo!

16 companies have teamed-up for a GSM Association-led initiative to make mobile broadband a recognisable standard - nothing makes things more real than a logo ;)

The team’s aim is to create a bunch of “always-connected mobile broadband devices delivering a compelling alternative to Wi-Fi”.

The first phase will see it pre-installed on laptops in 91 countries.

Launch participants include 3 Group, Asus, Dell, ECS, Ericsson, Gemalto, Lenovo, Microsoft, Orange, Qualcomm, Telefónica Europe, Telecom Italia, TeliaSonera, T-Mobile, Toshiba and Vodafone.

So - some big names in there.

The GSMA-created “Mobile Broadband service mark” is designed to help consumers easily identify a “ready to run” mobile broadband device.

More is promised from the initiative including “a whole range of previously unconnected devices – from cameras and MP3 players to refrigerators, cars and set-top boxes.”

BT Back In Black With Home Hub v2.0

BT Home Hub 2British Telecom have raised the game with version 2 of their Home Hub.

Using ‘n’ standard Wi-Fi, making them the only broadband provider to do this in the UK, it increases the reach and makes it faster to stream films and music through your home.

It comes in black which for me is a huge plus point - it also looks a lot slicker than the first one.

You can also save whilst you sleep by using the power save which disables the wireless. Less power usage, lower power bills and also saving the planet that little extra bit.

Other additions include four Ethernet ports to the previous model’s two, and a USB2 port allowing you print via the router.

It’s out this Friday, and is free with certain packages, or £90 in the shops.

The sports channel Setanta also comes free with BT Vision now if that floats your boat.

BT will also be providing an HD downloads service.

You pre-book a Hi-Def movie, and it downloads overnight being ready for you in the morning to watch with your bacon buttie and latte if you so desired - like I get up early enough to watch a flick before commuting!!!

9/10 surfers in Britain prefer Broadband. Information gathered by National Statistics (ONS) for September show that 88.4% of the UK are choosing to use broadband rather than dial-up.

The statistics show that 49.2% of those connections are for services advertised at two megabits per second or faster.

But analysis of the figures suggest the broadband market is static, which could mean tough times for service suppliers.

Lets hope that means prices will drop even more!
