Kingston 64gig USB Stick - DataTraveler150 64G

Written by Jay Garrett on November 21, 2008 in: Portable Media, Storage | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Kingston, the renowned memory maker have just pushed their DataTraveler line a bit further and released the Kingston DataTraveler 150 USB 64GB.

Why bother with a portable hard drive when you could just drop this in your pocket, bag or even attach it to your keys?

The only downside I can see is that you’re probably more likely to leave all your saved stuff on the pub table or lose it down the back of the sofa.

According to Jaja Lin, Kingston’s Flash business development manager: “The new 64GB DataTraveler 150 takes transportable storage to the next level with big capacity in a small package. As file sizes increase with digital media content such as music and photos, the need for USB Flash drives with high capacities will continue to rise. The DT150 certainly addresses those needs today.”

The Kingston DataTraveler 150 64GB will run on pretty much everything - but should you have any problems each stick comes with a five-year warranty and 24/7 tech support.

Look to pay around £120 for this chunk of memory portability :)

Vimobot - The Winning Six Are Available

Written by Jay Garrett on November 11, 2008 in: News, Portable Media, Storage, design | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I think you guys know that I’m a fan of Mimobot’s.

Well, last year Mimoco started the Vimobot Design Contest.

They released a bunch of oversized blank vinyl toys for artists and fans to doodle on and then the plenty-many designs were eventually whittled down to 20 and then finally down to six by Mimobot forum members.

This sextuplet of designer magic is available to buy today (click the pic for a decent spread).

The VDC Mimobot Series is available in 1GB to 8GB models starting at $24.95 and go right up to $80.

Cowon O2 - UK Bound Media Player

If you’re looking for something that’s like an iPod then you could do a lot worse than to check this little beauty out!

The Cowon O2 is coming to the UK and it is more than adequate to taunt the iPod and blow raspberries at the best of the rest.

Memory for all your media ranges from 16GB to a lovely 32GB of flash storage.

That’s not enough? Then whack in an SDHC card for up to 32GB more!

Video caresses those eyes of yours via the HD-friendly 4.3-inch TFT LCD screen and there’s compatibility for just about every audio and video format around - yes, even MP3’s!

If it wont play; well……you’ve probably made it up yourself!

Throw in video recording, photo viewing, a respectable battery life of 18 hours of music per charge and an open source operating system - the latter of which could bring forth some interesting downloads, stuff and things.

There’s no pricing details as yet, but as most of us know, Cowon players are generally very competitively priced :)

Cowon

2GB on a USB. Whoyagonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!

USB memory sticks are all much of a muchness really.

Apart from the amount of GBs they can store it’s all down to how much they cost.

This one, however, has an extra GB and it’s a classic!

The GB in question is the fantastic flick Ghostbusters (also the theme tune was one of the 1st 7″ singles I bought with my own cash!).

This drive comes with the film preloaded for all that Mr Staypuffed magic :)

There’s no word on the pricing or what format the movie comes in, but if it’s priced similarly to other 2GB drives, those other drives are bound to get slimed!

Written by Jay Garrett on September 1, 2008 in: General Interest, News, Portable Media, Storage, design | Tags: , , , , , , , ,

TrekStor have actually come up with a novelty USB drive that is really useful!

Even more-so if you like to glug back a brewski whilst you’re waiting for your files to transfer as the cunning Germans have plonked a bottle opener on a USB stick.

Looking rather swish in brushed aluminium the 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16GB models will feature a bottle opener on its cap so you can crack open a bevvy - nice ;)

The USB stick CO, as it will be called, will start at 6.99 euro for the 1GB model and 49.99 euro for the 16GB version.

It will be available in time for Oktoberfest.

USB For Bullet Boys - Rifle Memory

Written by Jay Garrett on in: General Interest, Portable Media, Storage, design, fashion | Tags: , , , , ,

It seems to be a day of reminders of the various stages of my youth.

This time dredging up my days of 80s/early 90s metal - tight jeans (slashed), fringed leather jacket, cowboy boots and a bullet belt were my ‘fashion’ staples.

So, this machine gun bullet USB flash drive would’ve been just the thing (if USBs had existed back then).

The bullet case holds 1GB of storage space but is not available yet but I do hope that it makes it onto the market.

Freecom XXS USB Drive - Tiny and Mobile

Written by Jay Garrett on August 19, 2008 in: Desktop PCs, General Interest, Hardware, Laptops, Mobile Computing, News, Portable Media, Storage | Tags: , , , , , ,

Freecom has unleashed their latest portable memory solution.

The Mobile Drive XXS; said to be the smallest and lightest 2.5-inch USB drive on the market.

What Freecom have done is taken a Samsung 2.5-inch laptop hard drive, swapped the SATA connector for a mini USB connector, and placed it inside an injection-moulded rubber sleeve.

The Mobile Drive XXS is available in 160GB, 250GB and 320GB capacities, for £45, £60 and £80 respectively.

If you’re still unsure - put those prices in comparison with the going price of a 64GB USB flash drive being £150.

Kingston Slim USB Drives Released

Written by Jay Garrett on August 6, 2008 in: Desktop PCs, Hardware, Laptops, Mobile Computing, News, Portable Media, Storage | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Kingston have just released their DataTraveler Mini Slim USB flash drives.

The super wafer thin drives are a mere 1.529 x 0.645 x 0.253-inches!

They come in 2 and 4GB flavours and cost $11 and $19, respectively.

Nice.

Rebel Rebel - Intempo Radio Ripper

InTempo RebelThe Intempo Rebel is a rebel with a cause!

It can record the most-played tracks from any FM radio station and then save them as MP3 files onto an SD card whilst editing out the incessant chat from the DJ and all of those ads.

I wish this had been invented in the 80’s - it would’ve saved a load of Pause/Record - Play/Record shinnanigans!

Rebel indeed and to quote David Lee Roth “I wear my lawsuits well!”

Yours for £69.99 before they’re all banged up and doing a stretch at Her Maj’s pleasure on charges of audio piracy.

Samsung Omnia - Not Tocco

Samsung OminaIf you’re feelng a little overwhelmed with the amount of mobiles being released you may have thought that Samsung have attempted to slip the same phone in with 2 different names amongst all the confusion.

I’m talking about the Tocco and the Omnia (SGH-i900).

Well, this is what I thought even if you didn’t.

So off I went to search out these two touch-friendly devices and find out if this was just a Sammy-scam (not that they would do such a thing).

Righty, both mobiles include those lifestyle-friendly apps such as a touchscreen, five-meg camera, MP3 player, FM radio and Bluetooth. Check.

But, the Omnia starts pulling ahead when I look closer.

It has a larger display - 3.2-inch in comparison to the Tocco’s 2.8-incher. Also the Omnia is sporting GPS, Wi-Fi and runs Windows 6.1 OS.

You also get a choice of 8GB or 16GB of in built memory as well as being able to shove in extra via the microSDHC slot to the tune of 32GB.

All of this is squeezed within a platinum finished12.5mm thin body.

Confusion over.

I think.

For now.

Samsung Shows Off 256 gig SSD

Samsung 256gig SSD

Say WOW!

This is (says Samsung) the world’s fastest and largest capacity 2.5-inch, MLC-based SSD with SATA II Interface.

Samsung has itself one pretty cool 256 gig solid-state drive.

With sequential read speed of 200 megabytes per second (MB/s) and sequential write speed of 160MB/s the SSD is about 2.4 times faster than a typical HDD.

The drive samples will be available by this September but making for the masses happens at the end of the year. There will be also a 1.8-inch version by then.

JT Baby is a Charming USB

Written by Jay Garrett on April 29, 2008 in: General Interest, Hardware, Portable Media, Storage | Tags: , , , , ,

JT BabyMost of us, well me anyhow, will have collected all manner of USB sticks, wristbands, Star Wars characters, etc and here’s another one.

This mass storage device is pretty neat and is small enough to double up as a useful charm for your mobile - if that kinda thing works for you.

It can also be used as a boot device - as long as your motherboard supports USB-ZIP or USB-HDD as the first boot device through the BIOS.

The 2GB version will come in black, green or purple, while the 4GB model comes in blue, orange and red.

Treat yourself to a 2GB and 4GB Jt Baby USB flash drive from Brando for $22 (£11ish) and $37, (£19ish) respectively.

80 into 1 does go - Memory Card Reader

80-1A recent error on my part saw me throwing out a bunch of USB cables (how many do I need? I asked myself), only to discover one of them was for my digital camera - how do I upload my pics now?  If I had a card reader that would cover every eventuality……………

iMONO 80-in-1 High Speed Card Reader supports 8-bit read-and-write speeds - an Incredible speedy data transfer! No card adapters are needed as it [is] compatible with most popular memory cards [it] supports the latest card types [such] as SDHC, MMC4.2, CF4.0, micro SDHC and mini SDHC.

For $17 from Brando I’d be covered for pretty much every card out there!, and measuring a mere 100mm x 27mm x 15mm it could be carted around everywhere - job done :0)

12 gig SDHC? - I say yes please!

SansDisk 12gb8 gig not big enough for ya!?!!

That’s what SansDisk is asking - and they’ve decided to flash you with 12 gigs of memory on their latest tinsy-tiny micro SDHC.

According to SanDisk, that 12gb means that you can load 1500 songs, 3600 photos AND 24 hours of video footage onto your mobile blower - that’s pretty spesh aint it?

STOP RIGHT THERE!!  No point in rushing to get one and shove it in your N95 so you can wave it at all the Johnny-come-latelies with their 8gig version - The card has just been sorted by SanDisk and it is currently being put through its paces by all the major phone makers.

Should be around later in the year tho - patience young padawan.

Zip(po) Drive

Written by Jay Garrett on November 5, 2007 in: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , , , ,

I’ve been searching around the interweb for novelty USB memory sticks and hubs.  I’ve seen hamsters in wheels, humping dogs and others that I dare not even mention.  So far, the most useful I’ve come across was the 32gig stick that I’ve already posted.

But, now here’s a great design.  If you’re a smoker, a dying breed (pardon the pun) now that in England and more other places it’s banned by law in public places, but none-the-less pocket space is at a premium, and anything that can be 2 or more things at the same time is great.  I am ignoring the USB mouse/label printer still!!

USB Lighter

What you see is a USB memory stick and cigarette lighter all in a ‘Zippo’ style case.

In lieu of lighter fluid and a flint, this lighter uses resistance coils to create heat. It’s the same technology found in car lighters. The small rechargeable battery cell powering the coil can be recharged via USB. On top of that, there’s some flash memory in there to store files. Damn, might as well give it a couple swiss blades and a nose hair trimmer to complete the package. And Kool? Does anyone still smoke that?

As for price and storage size; this is still a dream for the designer, Nathan Gabriele. I’d probably buy one, but then given my history of leaving Zippos in bars and clubs………………………

leave comments at the link below and lets get this into production!
