Triple Screened Prime Gaming Laptop

prime_gaming_laptop_foldedI use my laptop (well, clamshell desktop as I call it) for gaming and enjoy the fact that I can easily drag it around for LAN parties, etc. but there are those occasions when watching someone game with multiple screens.

But, this lappy may level the playing ground.

The Prime Gaming Laptop is designed by Kyle Cherry and is a case of - “This Must Be Produced” as far as I’m concerned.

It features three collapsible screens that offer a wide viewing panel and when unfurrled has a 32:10 aspect for better in game visibility.

It closes to the size of a 13″ notebook and opens to a super wide aspect 26″ notebook.

The main screen is a 10″ concealed OLED screen with 16:10 aspect. Both the left and the right screens are Aux OLED screens with 8:10 aspect.

The Prime laptop boasts an alluminium body which we all know provides strength whilst keeping it portable and also will help with cooling.

If there is any justice in this world of ours, this lappy will be produced and I will be asked to review (and keep) one when it is released ;)

Sony Walkman Touch With 3 Inch OLED Touchscreen

Written by Jay Garrett on December 14, 2008 in: Audio/Hi-Fi, Mp3 Players, News | Tags: , , , , , , ,

walkman-touchSony’s Walkman series of media players has done its best to keep pace but generally, sadly, fall by the wayside as young upstarts such as Creative and Apple lure us all away.

Sony have (finally) realised that touchscreens is where it’s at and now seem ready to break down and get all touchable.

According to Sony Insider there will be 16 and 32GB touchscreen Walkman players at CES 2009 this coming January.

The new machine is said to be rockin a 3-inch OLED display (praps even that 3.3-inch panel making the rounds, or something more Sony specific).

Also planned for the Touchy Walkman is WiFi, enabling a YouTube app, over the air podcast downloads, built-in access to Amazon’s MP3 store and an unspecified web browser.

The shots of the player above are obviously mockups, and the real hardware is supposed to have physical music control buttons and will be drawn to scale.

All this info is exclusive to the Sony Insider know-alls so it’s still not hard n fast truth til Sony says so but hey - I’m sure lots of the Sony faithful will be looking forward to the verification of such a beast.

Samsung Concept Mobile Phone Opens Like an OLED Book

Written by Jay Garrett on November 24, 2008 in: Mobile Phones, design | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

If you happen to be a designer of mobile phones you’re pretty much cornered into a number of ‘must haves’:

  1. They have to be pocketable
  2. They must look cool when shoved up against your face
  3. Even though its small it somehow must have a great display that can hold a bunch of icons and be able to display video

So, how can you shove what in essence has to be the desktop viewing experience into a device small enough to fit the skinniest jeans?

Entree Samsung’s new concept phone that’s being shown off at the FPD International show in Yokohama.

It opens like a book to reveal a flexible OLED big enough to handle all those video flicks that you carry around with you.

Calm yourselves though.  There’s no word on when we’ll actually see such a beast hit production.

Until then - check out this video :)

Casio Exilim Keitai - Worlds First 8.1 megapixel Camera Phone

Another ‘Worlds First‘; this time The Exilim Keitai W63CA has bragging rights to rockin an 8.1 megapixel camera - in a phone!

The latest Japanese super-phone squeezes 480 x 800 pixels into a 3.1-inch OLED display.

It also finds room to shoe-horn in features such as a wide-angle lens, 9-point auto focus, face detection, anti-shake, and a YouTube video mode that records VGA video at 30fps to microSD.

All this in a flip-fone measuring a mere 110 x 50 x 17.4 ~ 22-mm!!!

It launches in early November but no news on whether it is going to be available anywhere other than Japan as yet.

Kodak Release OLED Picture Frame

Twas only a matter of time.

Kodak have released a new picture frame based on CMEL’s new mass-produced, 7.6-inch OLED panels out into the wilds!

This ultra-thin wireless 800 x 480 pixel frame shall sport 2GB of internal storage, integrated audio, a 30,000:1 contrast, 180-degree viewing angle, and photo service compatibility with Flickr and such.

I just think the tiny matter of requiring to part with $999 may slow sales down a tad.

Optimus Pultius - Maximus’s Little Offshoot

Optimus PultiusNow, I know what you’re thinking and so does Art Lebedev.

Art Lebedev’s Maximus wasn’t enough for all you lovers of OLED keyboards so they is busting out the new Optimus Pultius innit; adding another 15 keys to the joy - alternatively you can use it all by itself.

The keys are just like the ones on the Maximus, and there’s even an extra USB port in the back.

Hmmm……….that usb port…….you know what you could do with that?  Oh yeah - link more Pultii (perhaps that’s the plural; I don’t know) together!

No word on price or release date just the vagueness of a 2008/2009 point.

Wrap-round monitor from Alienware

Alienware DLPAlthough still in prototype stylee; how cool is this doublewide curved DLP display complete with OLED illumination from Alienware?

They say that it will be available in the second half of this year though.  The curvature of the 2880 x 900 res screen has been designed to mimic the players peripheral vision and with a reported sub .02-millisecond response time it should keep all gamers pretty happy.  I’m thinking that this may also be a handy addition to recording studios where 2 monitors seem a minimum requirement…..
