Asus M50 - 2 Laptops in 1 Shell

asus-m50We’ve all seen multi-screened laptops before, but Asus has topped that by going the same route as their latest keyboard and have gone and squeezed two whole computers into one laptop!

The M50 concept houses 2 puters with separate processors and storage but one battery.

There’s the usual full size screen for the more powerful uses, while the smaller part of this machine’s split personality is displayed on a 4.3inch widescreen where a trackpad would normally be.

Asus is calling the laptop an “instant internet device” and I kinda get where they’re coming from.

You can jump online, check emails and send text messages from the quick booting small computer.  You can also go through your usual widgets (Calendar etc).

I’m not entirely clear just how powerful the smaller computer will be, but it comes into its own by minimising processing and battery drain when playing videos or displaying pictures - you’ll be able to watch videos for 12 hours on the full size screen from just a single charge.

If and when more info comes to light I’ll be sure to let you know :)

Samsung Concept Mobile Phone Opens Like an OLED Book

Written by Jay Garrett on November 24, 2008 in: Mobile Phones, design | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

If you happen to be a designer of mobile phones you’re pretty much cornered into a number of ‘must haves’:

  1. They have to be pocketable
  2. They must look cool when shoved up against your face
  3. Even though its small it somehow must have a great display that can hold a bunch of icons and be able to display video

So, how can you shove what in essence has to be the desktop viewing experience into a device small enough to fit the skinniest jeans?

Entree Samsung’s new concept phone that’s being shown off at the FPD International show in Yokohama.

It opens like a book to reveal a flexible OLED big enough to handle all those video flicks that you carry around with you.

Calm yourselves though.  There’s no word on when we’ll actually see such a beast hit production.

Until then - check out this video :)

Digital Photo Frame Christmas Tree Decoration

Written by Jay Garrett on November 12, 2008 in: General Interest, News, Toys 'n' Stuff | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

You like digital photo-frames and you love Christmas baubles - is there any rule that says that these cannot be combined?

Obviously not :)

This Christmas tree decoration features a 1.4-inch screen, 8mb of USB accessed storage and is powered by AAA batteries.

It’s available now for around $12 each.

At that price you could get a few and set them on as a slide-show……I wonder if I have enough festive pics of Dita von Teese………….

Zap Alias - Electric 3 Wheeler On Sale Soon

Written by Jay Garrett on June 30, 2008 in: General Interest, News, Transport | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Zap Alias FrontZAP mentioned this green vehicle at the Detroit Motor show earlier in the year and it looks like the company has now finally turned out a prototype.

Looking like an American retro-rodded version of the Grinall Scorpion it apparently isn’t capable of moving off the parking lot on its own just yet.

That should soon change as it was reportedly on its way to California where it’ll get fitted with a motor.

The company is apparently promising to have its first cars on the road next year when the Alias here is expected to sell for about $33,000.
