Twitter plus iPhone = Twinkle

Twitter LogoI call upon those fellow Twitter users who (unlike me) also own an iPhone!!

You have now a client called Twinkle that has just been released on Installer.app.

“So, what’s the difference between Twinkle and other apps?” I hear you ask.

Ok, so there’s quite a few ways in which you can tell the combined populous that you’re about to go get a kebab or that you don’t understand the film that you’re watching, but Twinkle lets you use the iPhone’s location feature to add location data to your tweets.

Not only that, there’s a “near me” feature that can show you tweets from people within so many miles of you, which is great for stalking organising a get together.

Location information is only visible from Twinkle and not on the Twitter website - good thing or not?

bebo is best

Written by Jay Garrett on January 4, 2008 in: News, Social Networking | Tags: , , ,

beboBebo, the popular social networking site, has been named the best performing social networking forum by experts who praised its efforts to enhance security and protect users from data theft and unwanted visitors.

Computing Which? magazine said the site had scored highly for encouraging “responsible networking” by enabling users to easily restrict who can see their information and block unwanted “friends”.

Bebo, also praised for giving users plenty of advice on security risks, beat its main rival Facebook, which received an overall score of 74 per cent compared to Bebo’s 79 per cent.

The magazine praised Facebook’s simple interface which makes it easy to navigate. But it warned that the site had been marked down because its security settings could be confusing. “Our expert felt it was confusing to find out and change who can see what about you,” it said. “Plus, it wasn’t easy to find out how to permanently delete our account.”

Yahoo! Groups received the lowest overall score of the 10 internet sites judged by the magazine. It scored 59 per cent, with Computing Which? describing the site as less sophisticated than some of its rivals. “Yahoo! Groups lacks many of the features people often associate with social networking groups,” it said.

ImeemThe Universal Music Group division of the French entertainment company Vivendi agreed to enable streaming of its digital-music and video catalogue through the social networking service, Imeem Inc.   Imeem has been running since 2006 and raises its income via ads.  The companies said  that the 19 million a month Imeem users can listen to and share music and videos with each other.  Imeem stated on Monday that its model makes music “a central part of the social-networking experience.” The San Francisco based site said its users also have access to the catalogues of Warner Music Group, Sony BMG and EMI Music so that’s most of the biggies sorted for the site. Users will be able to stream the music and videos or buy them via Apple’s iTunes.

doof - Here it is!

Written by Jay Garrett on December 6, 2007 in: Gaming, News, Social Networking, Uncategorized | Tags: , , ,

doofNow, I’m quite partial to a bit of ‘Counter Strike’ and ‘Day of Deafeat’ but would never see it as a ’social’ experience (unless hitting your buddy with a headshot via a Desert Eagle counts).  doof on the otherhand has other ideas - they’ve decided to mix the web-crack that is social networking with online gaming to be rewarded with the aptly titled  ”social gaming”.

(doof) “looks and feels more like a desktop on acid than a website” and brings to the table extensive customisation and self-branding options.

As well as having the expected features like chat, gifts, avatars and photo posting, there’s the gaming experience that is said to be more advanced than ever before. There’s a range of games from every genre that can be one player or against others, your score ratings are posted and matched world-wide.

doof founder Liad Shababo comments, “Social networking can become dull and gaming can get too intense — doof is about fun and taking the time out of the day to chill and socialise”.

It’s Time to Start Hating! It’s Time for Hatebook!

HatebookThis is beautiful.

Read on for the article posted by Pocket-lint.

Social networking sites are coming in for a bit of criticism recently, and some might say justifiably so. There’s a growing consensus of opinion that they should maybe take a bit more responsibility for their content.

This one could be adding fuel to the fire if taken out of context, but we thought we’d mention it anyhow.

Most of what’s here is people letting off steam about things they hate in life. Hopefully it will make you chuckle as it will ring bells with most normal, everyday people. There are a few entries though that seem to cross the line in our books, but most of it is (hopefully) pretty harmless venting.
